Fasting is not recommended during pregnancy. This is because you must get enough fluids and eat a well-balanced meal for you and your baby to obtain the required nutrients. Pregnant women who want to fast during Ramadan should consult with their doctor through out month to ensure that fasting does not harm their baby.

 

Before fasting, pregnant women should consult with their doctors. Fasting is not required for pregnant women; it is dependent on their health and willingness to fast.

 

Pregnancy may be emotionally and physically exhausting. Therefore, you must get sufficient rest and avoid strenuous physical activity. If you feel any discomfort or health problems while fasting, it is essential to end the fast and get checked out by a doctor. 

What if I want to fast during my pregnancy?

If you choose to fast, consult your doctor beforehand. They will examine your pregnancy history and ask about your weight, habits, how many weeks gestation you are, and whether you have had any issues. This will assist them in determining how you are going to cope with fasting and whether or not you want further assistance.

Things to keep in mind while fasting.  

  • Food that is high in fiber, such as green vegetables and fruits, helps in constipation prevention. 
  • Protein-rich foods like eggs, fish, meat, and poultry should be well-cooked and fresh. 
  • Foods that are high in minerals and vitamins, such as iron and calcium.
  • slow-release energy sources such as wholewheat pasta, oat or bran-based cereals, pulses and beans, unsalted almonds, and wholemeal bread 
  • Get lots of rest when fasting because you'll have less energy.

While you're not fasting, make sure to consume lots of fluids to avoid dehydration. Take your folic acid and vitamin D pills as prescribed.

What foods and beverages should you avoid when breaking your fast?

  • Caffeine, because it can cause dehydration. Caffeine use should be limited in any case during pregnancy.
  • Acidic or oily meals may cause heartburn.
  • Too many sugary meals and drinks provide an initial energy boost but do not sustain you.
  • Any foods that are dangerous to consume during pregnancy.

 

Fasting is not recommended for pregnant women with diabetes, high blood pressure, or anemia. In order to protect herself and their unborn kids from future difficulties, pregnant women with any disorders should avoid fasting."
